There are many thread options. Weights range from super-fine silk filaments to bobbin-only glittery cords, effects from Glow-in-the-dark pastels to variegated threads with color changes every inch.
Because color change frequently, and because the stock I keep on hand also changes frequently, rather than post the colors and textures I have in stock, here are links to the major brands I use. You can click on them to choose something you like, then check with me to see if I have it. If not, I'll order whatever you like.
Threads suitable for longarm quilting are usually on cones which feed the thread through the machine smoothly. While I can use commercial sewing thread on spools if necessary, it's usually not advisable. Rather than send thread with your quilt, it's better to let me know what you want and I'll order it. If you send a spool of something you especially like, I can usually substitute the nearest longarm equivalent.
Click on the thread company links below to investigate color options.
Superior Threads - We use more Superior Threads than any other brand, especially So Fine 50 and 40, King Tut, Bottom Line, and OMNI.
A&E Signature Threads -- Excellent and inexpensive cotton thread. Download their color chart.
Fil-Tec -- Glide is one of my favorite threads; it makes beautiful highlights on your quilt.
YLI -- We use both their Longarm Professional and Machine Quilting threads. For neon colors, nothing beats Linda Taylor's Thread by Design. On their product page, click an item to open a PDF color chart. Kyoto Garden is my favorite.
Aurifil is very high quality (and very expensive). We only stock 40 wt. Mako cotton cream and navy, but can order any available color.
Thread is charged by the bobbin, from $.50 from solid cottons to $3.00 for some specialty threads. Inquire about the price for a thread you like.
Your invoice may look like this:
3 bobbins So Fine "Pearl" bottom @ $1.00 -- 3.00
4.5 bobbins Signature "Linen" top @ $.50 -- 2.25
TOTAL -- $5.25
So Fine is a strong, thin thread; a bobbin holds 115 yards. Solid-color Signature is a thicker cotton thread used on the top; a bobbin holds 80 yards, so the equivalent to the 345 yards of thread in the bobbin would be 4.5 bobbins.
That would be the average coverage for a twin-sized quilt of medium density--$5.25 total.
YouTube offers many videos to give you information on thread. Superior Threads has 57 educational videos, so you might search for specific titles you are interested in. Here are three to click on by Superior, YLI, and Aurifil.
